Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive technique in which doctors perform surgery by making small incisions in the abdomen to insert tiny cameras, devices, and instruments into the body. The images from the cameras can be projected onto a large screen, and help the doctor guide the cameras, devices, and instruments throughout the region, thus allowing him or her to view different organs up close.This differs from traditional open surgery wich requires large, deep incisions. In some cases, during this procedure, the doctor might take tissue samples to send for examination in the lab. In other cases, the doctor will use the cameras, devices, and instruments to perform operations in the body.
